Background
I am open hearted, a father of two beautiful men, and a grandfather to two little girls. Part of me has been eternally moving; growing up in a naval family, we called Ottawa, Bedford, Victoria, and Tokyo home. Working for family and community with diligence and humility are primary goals.

Having our own family reminded me of what it meant to be settled for multiple years, first in Corbeil, ON and then in Nelson, BC. Through the process of raising a family, I have grown to deeply value my connections to people and the land.

The first deep connection to place as an adult was formed sailing on Pacific Ocean swells to Hawaii. My journey to develop a sense of place-based identity continued with Bobby & Jacob Wynne; these Cree hunters of Kashechewan transformed this into an Indigenous journey on their Albany River. And then Charlie and Jorgen Bolt, Inuit of Kugluktuk, shared how to stay warm by building iglus from the snow blocks packed by the bitterly cold Arctic winds. Each experience has heightened my reverence for the wisdom developed since time immemorial.

My settler ancestors came from England and Ireland; I am Lois and Bob George’s oldest of three sons. I strive daily to practice love, allyship and understand and undo the white privilege that I carry. Living a meaningful life is critically important to me; I invite you to consider Emily's four pillars: belonging, purpose, transcendence, and storytelling.
